[Financial News] LG CNS has achieved the feat of being the first Korean company to export an artificial intelligence data center (AI DC) overseas. This export is seen as a way to showcase the capabilities of Korean companies in building and operating data centers, while also establishing a foundation for IT service exports in the Asian region.
■Building a 100 billion won AI data center in Jakarta
LG CNS announced on the 6th that it has signed a contract with KMG, a local company, to build a 100 billion won AI data center through its joint venture 'LG Sinar Mas Technology Solution' with Indonesia's third-largest conglomerate, Sinar Mas Group.
This project involves building a hyperscale AI data center in Jakarta that can accommodate over 100,000 servers at once, with 11 floors above ground (total floor area of 46,281㎡) and a power capacity of 30MW. KMG plans to expand the total power capacity to 220MW after the first phase of construction to create Indonesia's largest data center.
KMG, a joint venture with Sinar Mas Group and Korea Investment Real Asset Management, has been promoting the development of the AI data center. LG CNS successfully completed a consulting and design contract for the AI data center with KMG last year, which led to the acquisition of this project. LG CNS will oversee infrastructure projects such as cooling systems, power, and communications worth 100 billion won in this project.
■Mobilizing capabilities of LG Electronics, LG Energy Solution, etc.
LG CNS plans to apply the 'One LG' integrated solution to this AI data center construction project, mobilizing the group's core capabilities, including data center design, construction, and operation (DBO) business capabilities, LG Electronics' data center cooling technology, and LG Energy Solution's battery solutions. The company also plans to introduce designs and construction methods specialized for GPU farms to meet the rapidly increasing demand for AI computing in Indonesia and the Asian region. Specifically, the company will build △hybrid cooling using both air and liquid cooling △infrastructure redundancy to support the power of high-density racks without disruption △an eco-friendly air conditioning system that automatically controls the temperature and humidity of the data center.
In addition, a 'network-neutral environment' will be created where data center tenants can freely choose communication lines. Tenants can select lines optimized for their business characteristics or build multiple lines to enhance service continuity. The Menteng area in central Jakarta, where the AI data center will be built, is a prime location for connecting network and submarine cable networks, and it has the advantage of potentially serving as a network hub in the future.
Hyun Shin-gyun, CEO of LG CNS, stated, "We will build a state-of-the-art AI data center that will innovate customer value by concentrating our data center capabilities," and "We will use this project as a stepping stone to further expand the AI data center business to global regions, including Southeast Asian markets such as Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia."
