[Financial News] The special prosecutor team for rebellion and foreign exchange (led by Jo Eunseok) is intensifying its investigation into foreign exchange allegations surrounding the Pyongyang drone infiltration operation.
According to the legal community on the 5th, the special prosecutor team summoned Nosangwon, the former intelligence commander, the key figure in the 'foreign exchange allegations', for questioning the previous day. Although the summons was conducted as a reference investigation for charges of aiding rebellion against a third party, it is also speculated that the special prosecutor team might have inquired about the foreign exchange allegations, given that Nosangwon is central to these allegations.
Previously, Nosangwon was found to have defined politicians and various social figures as 'targets for collection' during the police investigation phase, and had his notebook confiscated, which contained entries such as "Comprehensive cleanup due to northern infiltration", "Induce northern attacks near the Northern Limit Line (NLL)", "Receive and process north of the General Outpost (GOP), north of the Civilian Control Line", and "Fire and explosion at reception facilities on GOP".
The special prosecutor team has also reportedly secured statements from a National Defense Counterintelligence Command official that former Commander Ye Inhyeong was aware of the Pyongyang drone infiltration operation in advance. This contradicts Ye's previous stance of denying knowledge of the drone company's Pyongyang drone infiltration operation.
The special prosecutor team's investigation into the foreign exchange allegations is ongoing. It is known that the team continues to question military officials for this purpose. There are also expectations that former Commander Ye will be summoned for questioning soon.
The special prosecutor team is reportedly considering that former Commander Ye was aware of the drone company's dispatch of drones to North Korea in October-November last year. On the 22nd, former Commander Ye reportedly testified that he "did not know and was not informed" about the drone company's drone infiltration operation into North Korea. If former Commander Ye was aware of the Pyongyang drone infiltration operation in real-time, it is possible that former President Yoon, who was considering martial law at the time, was also aware of the drone operation.
The special prosecutor team plans to continue its investigation, leaving open the possibility that the counterintelligence command was involved in the drone operation from the beginning.
