[Financial News] President Lee Jae-myung, while on vacation on the 5th, released a message stating "We engrave the promise of peace on the history of pain," expressing deep condolences to the victims and bereaved families of the Zainichi Koreans who were sacrificed by the atomic bomb dropped on Japan 80 years ago.
President Lee, through his Facebook post on this day, stated, "Our Zainichi Koreans also paid a great sacrifice, and the victims and their families have been suffering for a long time," adding, "I express my deep condolences and words of comfort to the atomic bomb victims and their families who suffered in a foreign country, not their homeland, enduring the turbulent waves of history in multiple layers."
He continued, "Although the Special Act on Support for Korean Atomic Bomb Victims, implemented in 2017, laid the foundation for substantial support, there are still many insufficient parts when considering the pain of the long years," promising that the government will make continuous efforts to heal the wounds of atomic bomb victims.
Additionally, President Lee stated, "Memorial services to comfort the souls of the victims are held every year in Korea and Japan," expressing deep gratitude to the Zainichi Korean Residents Union who have erected memorial stones and organized memorial services on behalf of their homeland.
Finally, he emphasized, "I once again pray for the repose of the sacrificed souls and will firmly uphold the value of peace to prevent the horrors of war from repeating."
