Modern percussionist Pyo Seon-a will perform the 80th Anniversary of Liberation commemorative performance 'Fragrance of Liberation' on the 15th at the Kanagawa Arts Theatre in Yokohama, Japan.

The performance, which will reinterpret traditional Korean rhythms with modern drum performances and showcase Korea's unique excitement against the backdrop of 'Arirang', is expected to convey the joy of liberation and the resonance of freedom to the local Korean community.

In particular, the resounding drum sounds echoing in the theater are anticipated to evoke past memories and emotions, leading to universal resonance not only among our compatriots but also among Japanese audiences.

Ahead of this performance, Pyo Seon-a stated, "Drum performance is an art that conveys memories through sound, not words," and "this performance will not just be a commemorative event but a stage to share and empathize with memories through sound based on traditional art."

The core of this performance is 'Arirang' heard through drum sounds. Arirang is a representative Korean folk song and a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, and this piece will particularly convey the joy of liberation and freedom with the exciting drum sounds as the main theme.

Pyo stated, "Arirang is not just a song but a melody containing the life of Koreans and an artistic language embodying universal human emotions," adding, "Through drum performances, I want to convey a message that anyone in the world can empathize with by auditory and visualizing those emotions."

Meanwhile, Pyo Seon-a, who will be on the stage for the 80th Anniversary of Liberation, is a performer pioneering a new percussion genre by combining traditional Korean rhythms with modern popular music. She is a leading figure in modern percussion, promoting the diversity and charm of Korean traditional art through overseas performances and local youth workshops in countries such as Japan, the Philippines, and Vietnam.
