[Financial News] Kim Geon-hee Special Prosecutor Team (Min Jung-gi Special Prosecutor) commented on the controversy arising from the arrest warrant process of former President Yoon Suk-yeol, saying, "It's just that we know well how former President Yoon investigated and intend to apply it in the same way."
Moon Hong-joo, the assistant special prosecutor, stated in a press briefing on the afternoon of the 4th, "In 2017, during the Park Geun-hye National Corruption Special Prosecutor, former President Yoon, who was the head of the investigation team, obtained an arrest warrant for Choi Soon-sil and forcibly brought her in," revealing this.
Moon, the assistant special prosecutor, said, "We are not unwilling to execute the arrest warrant," and added, "We are carefully reviewing to ensure no issues arise."
He further expressed concern, "In the past, just showing the arrest warrant was enough for most suspects to comply and follow. If we do not execute it this time, there is concern whether other ordinary suspects will comply with the execution of the arrest warrant in the future."
Regarding the defense team's claim that former President Yoon was photographed in his underwear without legal grounds during the arrest process, Moon said it was to prevent disputes over the illegality of the arrest process and that it was explained to former President Yoon in advance.
He also mentioned that there was an intention to collect evidence, considering that former President Yoon might exert force during the arrest.
The special prosecutor team explained that the defense team's claim that they refused the request for a meeting with Yoon's defense counsel was because, as of today, no defense counsel appointment document has been submitted, making it impossible to allow a meeting with the defense counsel at the time of arrest.
The special prosecutor team stated, "For formally indicted suspects, it is a principle to go through the suspect interrogation process," and added, "The suspect interrogation is not only an aspect of the investigative agency investigating the suspect but also an opportunity for the suspect to argue any grievances."
