[Financial News] The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT) announced on the 4th that they held the '2025 Korea Traditional Liquor Competition' and selected and announced 18 award-winning products.
The Korea Traditional Liquor Competition, which started in 2010 to improve the quality and competitiveness of Korean traditional liquor, is the only government-sponsored traditional liquor competition in the country.
A total of 402 products from 246 breweries nationwide were submitted to this competition, which was divided into 6 categories. Through strict evaluation by a panel composed of liquor experts and national committee members, 3 products each were selected for the grand prize, excellence award, and merit award in each category (6 types of liquor, total 18).
The 6 categories are △Low-alcohol Takju, High-alcohol Takju △Yakju/Cheongju △Fruit Wine △Distilled Liquor (Distilled Soju, General Distilled Liquor), △Other Liquors (Other Liquors, Liqueurs).
Among the grand prize products in each category, the 'Cheonbihyang Yakju 15 degrees' by Good Liquor Co., Ltd., which won the Presidential Prize, is a yakju brewed using only self-made nuruk and domestic rice in the Oyangju method. It captivated the evaluators with its excellent taste and continuous efforts for quality improvement. Oyangju means a liquor made by brewing five times, adding additional ingredients to the base liquor four more times.
The grand prize in each category was won by 'Horangi Yuzu Saeng Makgeolli' (Low-alcohol Takju) by Bae Hyejeong Doga Co., Ltd., 'Eunhasu Byeolheneunbam' (High-alcohol Takju) by Fermentation Workshop 1991, 'Mireuato Shine Muscat White Sparkling' (Fruit Wine) by Geumyong Nongsan, 'Gamuchi Soju 25 degrees' (Distilled Liquor) by Danong Bio Co., Ltd., and 'Honeymoon' (Other Liquors) by Ivy Agricultural Cooperative Corporation.
The awards will be presented in conjunction with the opening ceremony of the 2025 Korea Traditional Liquor Festival scheduled for November.
The award-winning products will receive various promotional benefits such as prize money, buyer invitation tasting events, support for entry into bottle shops and pubs, and online promotions.
Joo Won-cheol, Director of Food Industry Policy at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, said, “The Korea Traditional Liquor Competition is an event where the government directly discovers excellent traditional liquors to expand the traditional liquor industry base and consumer base,” and added, “We hope that the excellent traditional liquors discovered through the competition will be sought after by many people.”
