Yoon's Side 'Took It Off Because It Was Hot... Humiliating Former President'
[Financial News] Yoon Suk-yeol's side explained on the 1st regarding the controversy over 'resistance in underwear' that arose during the execution of the arrest warrant by the special prosecutor team of Kim Geon-hee (Min Jung-ki special prosecutor), saying, "He took off his prison uniform for a while because it was hot." The special prosecutor refuted this claim, saying, "It didn't seem that way to us," and made it clear that it was 'resistance to arrest'.
Yoon's legal representatives issued a statement on the 4th, expressing "deep regret" over the special prosecutor mentioning "resistance to arrest by taking off clothes" and specifically mentioning underwear, and the Minister of Justice repeatedly claiming this in the National Assembly without properly verifying the facts, saying, "If it recurs, we will hold them legally accountable."
Previously, the special prosecutor team attempted to execute an arrest warrant for former President Yoon on the 1st but failed. The special prosecutor team reported, "Former President Yoon refused arrest while lying on the floor without even wearing a prison uniform."
In response, Yoon's side said, "This is not true," and criticized, "The Minister of Justice also participated in humiliating the former president by citing the special prosecutor's announcement without verifying facts with the prison officer on site."
Yoon's side explained the situation at the time, saying, "Former President Yoon was waiting after changing into a prison uniform for a meeting with his lawyer when the special prosecutor came and requested cooperation for arrest for investigation," and "Former President Yoon stated that he would comply after consulting with his lawyer, but the special prosecutor refused to cooperate, saying the lawyer had not submitted a power of attorney."
They added, "Former President Yoon thought it would be impossible to meet with his lawyer and took off his prison uniform for a while because it was too hot," and "After a long time, the special prosecutor came again to request cooperation for arrest, and former President Yoon, embarrassed in his underwear, covered himself with a blanket and requested to consult with his lawyer waiting in the meeting room."
They continued, "The special prosecutor avoided meeting with the lawyer and ignored former President Yoon's request," and "They even filmed the embarrassing situation without legal grounds."
The special prosecutor team immediately refuted this claim. Special Prosecutor Moon Hong-joo said in a briefing that day, "(Yoon's side) said taking off the prison uniform was to cool off, but it didn't seem that way to us."
He added, "We briefed that (Yoon) resisted strongly while lying down, and the Minister of Justice also conveyed the opinion of Seoul Detention Center."
Regarding the on-site filming, he explained, "As soon as we entered, (Yoon) asked 'What is that?' and we said it was to prevent illegality and disputes during the arrest process," and "When we tried to arrest with force, if Yoon obstructed with force, it could constitute obstruction of official duties by force, so it was also for the purpose of evidence."
