In the midst of the government's and local governments' full efforts to recover from the unprecedented heavy rain damage, the helping hands of volunteers from all over the country are proving to be a great help in flood recovery and restoring the daily lives of affected residents.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 4th that 54,686 volunteers visited flood-damaged areas such as Gwangju Metropolitan City, Gyeonggi Province, Chungcheongnam-do, Jeollanam-do, and Gyeongsangnam-do from July 17 to August 3 to carry out recovery activities.
Additionally, 45,735 military personnel (as of August 3) have been deployed to flood areas to assist in recovery.
Volunteer relief activities at the civilian level are also being carried out consistently.
The Gangnam Volunteer Center visited affected households in Seosan, Chungcheongnam-do, with 36 volunteers ranging from teenagers to those in their 70s, helping with flood recovery by organizing collapsed walls and more.
The 'Uiseong-gun Talent Sharing Professional Volunteer Group' of 16 people led heavy equipment such as 2 excavators, 3 dump trucks, and 1 water truck to clean up soil in Sancheong, Gyeongsangnam-do on July 25.
The 'Chungnam Asan FC Team' of about 50 members organized the damaged strawberry greenhouse farms in their hometown of Asan, Chungcheongnam-do, and made individual donations on their game rest day on July 27.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety stated that from the early stages of this flood, an integrated volunteer support group was established and operated, and various volunteers across regions and generations extended helping hands.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety is operating a continuous cooperation system with all local governments and volunteer centers nationwide, and considering the increased demand for manpower to organize farms and farmland following the full-scale recovery, it requested active participation in flood recovery volunteer work from government departments and public institutions from today until the 14th for comprehensive government-private cooperation.
General citizens can participate in volunteer work by applying for flood area volunteer activities being recruited on the '1365 Volunteer Portal Website'.
Minister Yoon Ho-jung said, "Many volunteers from all over the country are extending warm helping hands to the affected residents despite the heat," and added, "The Ministry of the Interior and Safety will do its best to ensure the safety of volunteers and the quick recovery of each affected resident's daily life."
