Chairman Choi, at a meeting with Kim Jeong-gwan, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Jung-gu, Seoul, on the 4th, said, "Many people were worried about tariffs, and I'm glad it was resolved well," but added that more detailed negotiations are needed. Chairman Choi requested, "I hope you will take more details into account in the future," and asked to "establish trade policies based on our industrial strategies."
Minister Kim said, "It feels like the surgery on the patient has just ended," and added, "We have somewhat alleviated the uncertainty of tariffs, but this is just the beginning." Minister Kim also added, "I will try to do well so that it can help the industry, such as industrial development issues."
The government dramatically concluded tariff negotiations with the U.S. on the 31st of last month, just a day before the deadline for the U.S. to impose reciprocal tariffs. The reciprocal tariff, which the U.S. initially planned to impose from the 1st of this month, was reduced from 25% to 15%. Attending the meeting were Park Dong-il, Director of Manufacturing Industry Policy at the Ministry of Industry, Nam Kyung-mo, Director of Industrial Policy at the Ministry of Industry, Park Il-jun, Vice Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Lee Hyung-hee, Vice Chairman of the Seoul Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
