Prosecutors, Three Times Warrant Not Requested... "No Major Issues"
[Financial News] The police emphasized that they did their best under conditions where it was difficult to conduct a forced investigation into the case of former Broadcasting and Communications Review Committee Chairman Ryu Hee-rim, who is suspected of 'complaint manipulation', which concluded with some charges being dropped.
Park Sung-joo, head of the National Investigation Headquarters of the National Police Agency, said at a regular press conference held at the National Police Agency in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul on the 4th, "A warrant for forced investigation to secure materials was not requested. We believe we did our best under such conditions."
According to the police, the prosecution received the related warrant application and requested supplementation three times. When the warrant was not requested despite repeated supplementation, the police deemed forced investigation difficult and proceeded with a voluntary investigation.
Chief Park said, "I don't think there are major issues in the investigations by Yangcheon Police Station and Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency," adding, "However, we are reviewing the progress of the investigation so far regarding the parts where we had no choice but to conduct a voluntary investigation."
Previously, Yangcheon Police Station sent Ryu, the former chairman, to the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office on charges of violating the Conflict of Interest Prevention Act, claiming he disadvantaged a public interest whistleblower. However, the charge of obstruction of business through complaint manipulation was dismissed. The Anti-Corruption Investigation Division of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency sent Tak Dong-sam, former team leader of the Broadcasting and Communications Review Committee, Ji Kyung-kyu, secretary general of the committee's union, and employee A of the committee, who reported the complaint manipulation suspicions of the former chairman to the media, to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office.
The psychopathy test for the suspect in the homemade gun murder case that occurred in an apartment in Songdo, Incheon, was not conducted. Chief Park said, "An interview is conducted if the profiler evaluation interview score is 25 or more out of 40, but this standard was not met."
