[Financial News] The special prosecutor's team for insurrection and foreign exchange (Cho Eun-seok Special Prosecutor) is summoning former Minister of Public Administration and Security Lee Sang-min to investigate allegations that he ordered power and water cuts to some media outlets during the emergency martial law on December 3.
The special prosecutor's team is calling former Minister Lee, who is detained at Seoul Detention Center, to the Seoul High Prosecutor's Office, where the special prosecutor's office is located, for questioning at around 10 a.m. on the 4th. The special prosecutor's team is expected to question former Minister Lee about △ the instructions related to power and water cuts during the December 3 emergency martial law △ the process of convening the cabinet meeting before the proclamation of the December 3 emergency martial law.
Former Minister Lee is accused of receiving orders from former President Yoon Seok-yeol during the cabinet meeting for the proclamation of emergency martial law on December 3 last year to cut power and water to some media outlets and relaying this to the fire department and police.
Former Minister Lee was arrested on the 1st for involvement in important insurrection duties, abuse of authority, and perjury. The special prosecutor's team requested an arrest warrant for former Minister Lee from the Seoul Central District Court on the 28th of last month, and the court issued the arrest warrant due to concerns about evidence destruction.
Former Minister Lee is also accused of giving false testimony at the Constitutional Court. The special prosecutor's team considers former Minister Lee's testimony during the impeachment trial defense of former President Yoon at the Constitutional Court in February, where he stated, "I have seen a paper note from afar at the Presidential Office, but I have never seen a document with power and water cut details," to be false testimony.
