[Financial News] Former People Power Party lawmaker Kim Young Seon, the main suspect in the 'Myeong Tae Gyun Nomination Intervention Allegation,' appeared before the Kim Geon Hee Special Prosecutor Team (Min Jung Gi Special Prosecutor).
Former lawmaker Kim appeared at the special prosecutor's office located at the KT Gwanghwamun Building West in Jung-gu, Seoul, at 9 a.m. on the 4th for questioning.
Before his appearance, former lawmaker Kim held a press conference, expressing concern that "the special prosecutor might be conducting a killing-fields-style investigation that destroys families," and stated, "If efforts by someone running for an elected position to secure a nomination, efforts by a presidential candidate to organize or win a campaign, or efforts by a party leader to manage the party are considered crimes, then is there any part of our society where the special prosecutor or prosecution does not wield a sword to criminalize?"
Furthermore, former lawmaker Kim claimed that his accounting manager, Kang Hye Kyung, embezzled election funds. Kang was the first to reveal the 'Myeong Tae Gyun Nomination Intervention Allegation.'
When asked by reporters if he knew that Yoon Sang Hyun, a People Power Party lawmaker, received a call from former President Yoon regarding the nomination, former lawmaker Kim replied, "I don't know about that. From my perspective, I was overwhelmingly popular in the region."
Former lawmaker Kim was nominated and elected in the 2022 parliamentary by-election, but there are suspicions that former President Yoon Seok Yeol was involved in the nomination process. The main point is that former President Yoon and Kim Geon Hee nominated former lawmaker Kim in exchange for receiving 81 free public opinion surveys from Myeong Tae Gyun during the 2022 presidential election process. The special prosecutor team summoned Myeong for two days on the 31st of last month and the 1st to investigate this.
The special prosecutor team is also verifying the allegations of nomination intervention in the 22nd general election last year by former President Yoon and his wife. Former lawmaker Kim reportedly met with Myeong, Lee Jun Seok, the leader of the Reform New Party, and Chun Ha Ram, the floor leader of the Reform New Party, at Chilbulsa Temple in Hadong-gun, Gyeongnam, on February 29 last year, showing call records and Telegram messages with Kim Geon Hee, demanding the first proportional representation nomination of the Reform New Party. The Reform New Party decided not to accept former lawmaker Kim's demand after internal discussions. The special prosecutor team conducted a search and seizure on former lawmaker Kim on the 8th of last month to verify this.
The special prosecutor team plans to question former lawmaker Kim about △whether he demanded a nomination through Myeong △whether he demanded a nomination from the Reform New Party ahead of last year's general election △whether he was aware of the nomination intervention by former President Yoon and Kim Geon Hee.
