Due to the heavy rain concentrated in the southern regions from the 3rd, one person died in Muan, Jeonnam, and about 2,500 residents were temporarily evacuated.
According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters on the 4th, due to this heavy rain, as of 4:30 a.m. that day, 1,836 households and 2,523 people were temporarily evacuated in 6 metropolitan cities and provinces, including Busan, Gwangju, Chungnam, Jeonnam, Gyeongbuk, and Gyeongnam.
Among them, most of the 1,820 households and 2,498 people have not yet returned home and are staying in nearby temporary shelters.
The total rainfall by region from midnight on the 3rd to 5 a.m. on the 4th shows that Muan in Jeonnam was heavily concentrated with 289.6mm of rain. Muan experienced 'extreme heavy rain' with 142.1mm per hour, leading to a landslide warning being issued.
No casualties or facility damage have been tentatively identified due to this heavy rain. However, the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters reported that they are checking whether the death of a person in their 60s in Muan the previous day was due to a natural disaster.
In Muan, a man in his 60s who went missing after being swept away by the current was found in a state of cardiac arrest the previous day at around 8 p.m.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety activated the first stage of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters at 6 p.m. on the 3rd, anticipating heavy rain.
At 11 p.m. on the same day, it was upgraded to the second stage, and related agencies and local governments were instructed to thoroughly control risk areas and preemptively evacuate residents in areas where heavy rain warnings were issued.
The heavy rain warnings in Gwangju and the Honam region, where a lot of rain fell the previous day, have all been lifted.
The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasure Headquarters urged to ensure there is no damage, stating that heavy rain warnings are in effect in Gyeongsang and Chungbuk, with around 20mm of rain falling per hour, mainly in Gyeongsang.
