[Financial News] Hyundai Motor announced on the 3rd that it will participate in a pilot project for operating demand-responsive transport (DRT) to solve local transportation issues in Hungary.
Hyundai Motor reported that it provided an advanced demand-responsive transport platform at the 'Hungary Demand-Responsive Transport Service Opening Ceremony' held in Goedoelloe, Hungary on July 31 (local time), and laid the foundation for global business expansion.
Unlike existing public transport that operates on fixed routes, 'demand-responsive transport' is a mobility service that generates real-time routes based on passenger calls and operates variably. It is based on artificial intelligence (AI) technology, predicting ride demand and enabling optimal route driving, including efficient vehicle dispatch.
With the introduction of demand-responsive transport, empty vehicle operation will decrease as only the necessary routes are operated according to demand.
Following this opening ceremony, a demand-responsive transport pilot project will begin for approximately 12 weeks from August 18 to October 31 in the Goedoelloe area of Hungary.
Hyundai Motor developed the demand-responsive transport 'SHUCLE' platform and has contributed to activating public transport and improving mobility convenience in transportation-deprived areas through collaboration with local governments in Korea since 2021.
Goedoelloe, where the pilot project is starting, is a small city with a population of less than 40,000 located in northern Hungary, where public transport efficiency is low, with only five buses covering the entire city's public transport.
Hyundai Motor plans to participate in the pilot project, plan services with local operators, optimize the SHUCLE platform to suit local conditions, and be responsible for system maintenance to help improve residents' mobility. This is the first time the SHUCLE platform is applied overseas.
Hyundai Motor plans to promote full-scale service operations in Hungary or other countries in the future, starting with this pilot project.
Attending the opening ceremony were Kim Sang-wook, Minister-Counselor, Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Hungary; Szabolcs Szolnoki, Deputy State Secretary, Ministry of National Economy of Hungary; Gyorgy Gemesi, Mayor of Goedoelloe, Hungary; Kim Hyung-tae, Vice President of Korea Development Institute (KDI); and Kim Soo-young, Executive Director of Hyundai Motor Mobility Business Division.
Kim Soo-young, Executive Director of Hyundai Motor Mobility Business Division, said, "We hope to contribute to the activation of the Goedoelloe transportation system in Hungary by utilizing the SHUCLE platform technology," and added, "This pilot project is a stepping stone for Hyundai Motor to expand the SHUCLE platform globally."
Gyorgy Gemesi, Mayor of Goedoelloe, Hungary, said, "We have high expectations for this pilot project aimed at cost reduction and innovative ideas," and added, "We are very pleased to have gained a meaningful opportunity."
