[Financial News] The National Hanwoo Association has successfully made its first Hanwoo export to Laos. The association plans to actively pursue the development of new markets to expand Hanwoo exports.
The association, together with the export partner PR Biz, announced on the 3rd that they exported the first batch of 150 kg last month after six months of discussions, including import permit negotiations.
As a result, the number of countries where Hanwoo can be exported has increased to six, adding Laos to Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, Cambodia, Mongolia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The export to Laos is a case of overcoming the difficulties of inter-country quarantine agreements through private-level negotiations.
On the 24th of last month, the association held the '2025 Hanwoo Pre-Launching Event' at the Amari Hotel in Vientiane, Laos, officially introducing the excellence and premium image of Hanwoo. The event was attended by 60 people, including Vice Minister Tongchan of the Laos Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Ambassador Jeong Yeong-su of the Republic of Korea to Laos, Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT), Laos Agriculture Business Association (LABA), local import buyers, and distribution and food service industry officials, who showed great interest in Hanwoo.
The Hanwoo Association signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Laos Agriculture Business Association (LABA) on this day.
Kim Kyung-chul, head of the ASEAN Regional Headquarters of aT, said in his congratulatory speech, "The export to Laos, achieved under strict quarantine and hygiene conditions, is an exemplary case of public-private cooperation," and evaluated it as "a new foundation for mutual understanding and cooperation between Korea and Laos."
Kamla Sengdavong, Vice Chairman of LABA, said, "In line with the Laos government's policy to promote agricultural production and replace imports, we are fostering livestock farming as an industry," and "through the exchange of Korea's advanced livestock technology and the introduction of high-quality Hanwoo, we will provide various options to tourists and consumers, and in the long term, jointly develop high-quality breeding and establish a sustainable livestock system."
The Hanwoo Association plans to expand its connection with the local distribution network in Laos and prepare for the formal Hanwoo export procedures.
Han Yang-su, Vice Chairman of the Hanwoo Association, said, "Hanwoo is a unique breed and cultural heritage raised only in the Republic of Korea," and "the export of Hanwoo to Laos and the exchange of cattle breeding technology will contribute to the development of agriculture and livestock industries in both countries and improve the quality of life of the people."
