Speeding Up Investigation of 'Nomination Interference Allegations'
[Financial News] The Kim Geon-hee Special Prosecutor Team (Min Jung-gi Special Prosecutor) will summon and investigate Kim Young-sun, a former member of the People Power Party.
The special prosecutor team announced on the 3rd that they will summon former Congressman Kim for investigation at 9 a.m. on the 4th.
Former Congressman Kim was elected after being nominated in the 2022 by-election for the National Assembly, and there are suspicions that former President Yoon Seok-yeol was involved in the nomination process. It is alleged that former President Yoon and Kim Geon-hee received 81 free public opinion surveys from Mr. Myeong Tae-gyun during the 2022 presidential election in exchange for nominating former Congressman Kim. The special prosecutor team summoned Mr. Myeong on the 31st of last month and the 1st for a two-day investigation to investigate this.
Additionally, the special prosecutor team is also verifying the allegations of nomination interference in the April 22nd general election last year by former President Yoon and his wife. Former Congressman Kim met with Mr. Myeong, Lee Jun-seok, the leader of the Reform New Party, and Cheon Ha-ram, the floor leader of the Reform New Party, at Chilbulsa Temple in Hadong County, Gyeongnam, on February 29th last year. It is known that he showed call records and Telegram messages with Mrs. Kim, demanding the first proportional representation nomination for the Reform New Party. The Reform New Party did not accept former Congressman Kim's request after internal discussions.
The special prosecutor team plans to investigate former Congressman Kim on whether he demanded a nomination through Mr. Myeong, whether he demanded a nomination from the Reform New Party before last year's general election, and whether he was aware of the nomination interference by former President Yoon and Mrs. Kim.
