Special Prosecutor Likely to Attempt Forced Detention Again
[Financial News] The Kim Geon-hee Special Prosecutor Team (Min Jung-gi Special Prosecutor) failed in its attempt to forcibly detain former President Yoon Seok-yeol, who is under suspicion of interfering in Myung Tae-kyun's nomination.
The special prosecutor team announced that the execution of the arrest warrant for former President Yoon, conducted at Seoul Detention Center from around 9 a.m. on the 1st, was unsuccessful. The special prosecutor team explained, "The execution of the arrest warrant could not be completed due to the strong refusal of the person concerned."
The special prosecutor team requested former President Yoon to appear for investigation on the 29th and 30th of last month, but when he refused to appear, they applied for an arrest warrant.
Former President Yoon refused to comply with the summons investigation by the rebellion special prosecutor and the rebellion trial, as well as the summons investigation by the Kim Geon-hee special prosecutor team. Former President Yoon's side stated that he would not comply with the summons investigation due to mobility difficulties caused by chronic diseases such as diabetes and the risk of blindness due to deteriorating eye health.
With the Seoul Central District Court issuing an arrest warrant on the 31st, it seemed that the special prosecutor team was accelerating its investigation. However, with the failure to forcibly detain former President Yoon, it is inevitable that the special prosecutor team's investigation will face setbacks. Although there is about a week left until the arrest warrant expires on the 7th, the first attempt at forced detention failed, which may result in the detention itself being nullified.
The special prosecutor team is expected to continue attempting forced detention during the remaining arrest warrant period. As former President Yoon is the key suspect in the "Myung Tae-kyun nomination interference suspicion," the special prosecutor team aims to succeed in forcibly detaining him to obtain related statements.
However, even if former President Yoon sits in the special prosecutor's investigation room, the possibility of him speaking is low. As former President Yoon continues to question the legitimacy of the special prosecutor, he is expected to maintain his stance of refusing to cooperate with the special prosecutor's investigation.
