[Financial News] Hansung-suk, Minister of SMEs and Startups, announced on the 1st, "We will swiftly prepare measures to eradicate SME technology theft by reflecting the voices from the field."
Minister Han attended the 'Meeting to Prepare Measures to Eradicate SME Technology Theft' on this day and said, "The technology that SMEs have developed over a long period is directly linked not only to the survival and growth of the company but also to national competitiveness," expressing this sentiment.
The Ministry of SMEs, the Fair Trade Commission, the Patent Office, and other technology protection policy-related departments held this meeting to swiftly prepare measures to eradicate SME technology theft together with SME representatives, related associations, and experts.
During the meeting, SMEs that experienced technology theft conveyed their difficulties, and major associations and experts proposed policy suggestions. Participants discussed the government's policy direction to eradicate SME technology theft, including the introduction of a Korean-style discovery system.
The SMEs attending the meeting suggested △alleviating the burden of proving damage in technology theft lawsuits △realizing compensation through the calculation of damages △strengthening sanctions against SME technology theft acts.
The Ministry of SMEs, the Fair Trade Commission, and the Patent Office decided to join forces among related agencies to eradicate technology theft and recover damages for SMEs.
Han Ki-jung, Chairman of the Fair Trade Commission, said, "We will strengthen the monitoring of technology misuse acts that hinder the innovation of SMEs and damage competitiveness," and "At the same time, we will actively pursue multi-faceted system improvements to ensure sufficient damage relief for small victimized companies with weak legal response capabilities."
Kim Wan-ki, Commissioner of the Patent Office, said, "Technology protected by patents and trade secrets is the core of SMEs' growth and survival strategy," and "To eradicate SME technology theft, we will strengthen the investigation by the Patent Office's technology police and actively promote improvements to related systems."
