[Financial News] Colonel Park Jung-hoon, head of the Marine Corps Investigation Team, appeared as a reference at the Chae Sang-byeong Special Prosecutor Team on the 31st and stated, "I plan to urge an investigation related to the charges of perjury."
Colonel Park arrived at the special prosecutor's office in Seocho-gu, Seoul at around 1:25 PM that day. It is the second reference investigation following the one on the 16th.
Colonel Park's defense team stated about the parts they want to emphasize in this investigation, "Some witnesses who gave false statements contrary to their memories in Colonel Park's insubordination case have been identified, and some objective evidence has emerged," adding, "We plan to urge an investigation from the perspective that they perjured to harm Colonel Park."
Colonel Park's side believes that former Marine Corps Commander Kim Gye-hwan and others gave false statements to ensure Colonel Park would be punished in court.
Regarding the claim by former Minister of National Defense Lee Jong-seop's side that "since the military never had investigative authority from the start, the expression 'investigative pressure' does not apply," the defense team pointed out, "It seems they are greatly changing their stance to suit their interests," adding, "The application of the law does not change according to needs and emotions."
The defense team further added, "The special prosecutor's investigation is approaching one month, and we understand that it is now moving beyond the initial stage into a full-scale investigation," adding, "Colonel Park and the defense team will assist in any way possible from outside while trusting and waiting."
Regarding the ongoing testimonies related to former President Yoon's 'fury,' they said, "Opinions will naturally be expressed in the process of urging an investigation into perjury."
Jung Min-young, assistant special prosecutor for Chae Sang-byeong, said at a regular briefing that morning, "The special prosecutor has secured statements related to the case through reference investigations of various military personnel," adding, "There is a need to reconfirm Colonel Park's position on this part." Additionally, "Regarding the case where Colonel Park filed a criminal complaint against the military prosecutor who drafted the arrest warrant for him, we will also listen to his position as the complainant," he said.
Colonel Park is the person who exposed that former Marine Corps Commander Kim Gye-hwan said, "VIP (former President Yoon Seok-yeol) said, 'Who would want to be a division commander if they are punished for such a matter?'" Former Commander Kim initially denied the 'VIP fury theory,' but reversed his testimony during the pre-arrest suspect interrogation (warrant review).
Colonel Park, during his first appearance at the special prosecutor on the 16th, testified for about 5 hours regarding the circumstances of investigative pressure. With credibility added to his testimony, the special prosecutor is expected to focus on verifying the investigation process and pressure allegations during the Chae Marine's death incident in this second investigation.
