Denies Relationship with Hong Jun-pyo and Park Hyung-jun
[Financial News] Myung Tae-kyun, the key suspect in the nomination manipulation allegations involving former President Yoon Seok-yeol, appeared at the Kim Geon-hee special prosecutor's office (Min Jung-gi special prosecutor).
Mr. Myung appeared at the special prosecutor's office in the KT Gwanghwamun Building West in Jongno-gu, Seoul, at around 10 a.m. on the 31st. Mr. Myung, who is accused of bribery, is scheduled for face-to-face questioning for two days, today and the next day.
Before appearing, Mr. Myung told reporters, "Today and tomorrow, I want to find out and know what the truth and facts are at the special prosecutor's office."
When asked what he plans to clarify at the special prosecutor's office, Mr. Myung replied, "What is there to clarify? I have submitted all of my past 8 years, is there anything to lie about?"
Regarding former President Yoon Seok-yeol, who has not appeared for questioning by the special prosecutor, Mr. Myung said, "After the two-day investigation by the special prosecutor is over, I will tell you my thoughts and various things about former President Yoon."
Regarding the change in stance of Yoon Sang-hyun, a member of the People Power Party, Mr. Myung said, "Didn't he change his position without consulting me? Isn't the person who knows best about the nomination related to former lawmaker Kim Young-sun the nomination management committee chairman? That person knows the truth best."
Mr. Myung explained, "I heard that Yoon Sang-hyun received calls from lawmakers Kwon Seong-dong and Yoon Han-hong," and "Yoon Sang-hyun showed me the calls and texts from lawmakers Kwon and Yoon Han-hong, and I saw them at that time."
However, Mr. Myung refuted the nomination of former Deputy Prosecutor Kim Sang-min, saying, "I have never seen a person named Kim Sang-min." He also completely denied any relationship with former Daegu Mayor Hong Jun-pyo and Busan Mayor Park Hyung-jun.
Mr. Myung is suspected of providing the results of public opinion polls to former President Yoon 81 times for free during the 2022 presidential election period and then requesting the nomination of former lawmaker Kim in return during the same year's parliamentary by-election. The special prosecutor's team conducted searches and questioning of Yoon Sang-hyun, who was the nomination management committee chairman at the time, and it was confirmed that Yoon Sang-hyun testified that he received a call from former President Yoon during the investigation. The special prosecutor's team notified former President Yoon of the summons to confirm this, but former President Yoon did not comply, and an arrest warrant was requested.
The special prosecutor's team is expected to focus on questioning Mr. Myung about the 'nomination manipulation allegations.' The special prosecutor's team will investigate whether △ illegal public opinion poll results were provided to former President Yoon for free, △ whether former President Yoon was asked for the nomination of former lawmaker Kim in return, and △ whether any money or goods were exchanged during the nomination request process.
