Exhibition of Mugunghwa Bonsai, Drone Show, and Various Programs at Sejong Arboretum
The National Flower Mugunghwa Grand Festival, which began in 1991, is held around Liberation Day on August 15, when the Mugunghwa blooms most beautifully, to widely promote the love for the country and the precious and beautiful value of the Mugunghwa.
This year's festival, under the theme '80 Years of Liberation, Mugunghwa Blooming Together', will be held at the urban garden of the National Sejong Arboretum, with the aim of allowing all generations to explore the historical and symbolic significance of the Mugunghwa. To allow everyone to enjoy the beautiful Mugunghwa at a convenient time, free admission and night openings will be offered during the festival period from August 14 to 16.
Throughout the festival, over 1,000 beautiful Mugunghwa bonsai from all over the country will be displayed throughout the arboretum. On the opening day, the evening of the 14th of next month, a 'Colorful Mugunghwa Drone Show' will light up the night sky with numerous drones. Additionally, various programs such as AI Mugunghwa history explanations, national flower puzzle matching, free Hanbok rental, and Mugunghwa speed quiz will be provided to offer richer summer night memories to the public.
Meanwhile, the Korea Forest Service is supporting local Mugunghwa festivals in Suwon City, Gyeonggi Province; Hongcheon County, Gangwon Province; Wanju County, Jeollabuk Province; and Jangseong County, Jeollanam Province, to allow more people to experience the Mugunghwa in this meaningful year of the 80th anniversary of Liberation.
Choi Young-tae, Director of the Forest Protection Bureau of the Korea Forest Service, said, "This Mugunghwa Grand Festival is a lifestyle-friendly festival that combines the garden content of the National Sejong Arboretum with the value of the national flower," adding, "We hope that on the 80th anniversary of Liberation, the symbolic significance of the Mugunghwa will be revisited and it will become a more familiar and proud symbol."
