[Financial News] President Lee Jaemyung stated on the 31st, "With this negotiation, the government has eliminated the uncertainty of the export environment and matched the U.S. tariffs to be lower or at the same level as major export competitors, thus preparing conditions to compete on equal or superior terms with major countries."
President Lee announced this through social networking services (SNS) on the same day, saying, "After gathering various opinions and repeatedly refining strategies, we have finally concluded the tariff negotiations today."
President Lee said, "We have overcome a major hurdle. The negotiation with the world's largest market, the United States, was the first trade task of our sovereign government," and explained, "Despite the tight timeline and challenging conditions, the government prioritized national interest in the negotiations."
Furthermore, President Lee stated, "The fund included in the trade agreement, amounting to 350 billion dollars, will solidify the foundation for bilateral strategic industry cooperation, assisting our companies in actively entering the U.S. market in sectors where we have strengths, such as shipbuilding, semiconductors, secondary batteries, bio, and energy," and added, "In particular, 150 billion dollars of this is a dedicated fund for shipbuilding cooperation, which will robustly support our companies' entry into the U.S. shipbuilding industry."
President Lee noted, "Negotiation involves a counterpart. Therefore, it's not easy," and emphasized, "It's important to derive a mutually beneficial result, not just one-sided profit."
He continued, "This agreement is the result of aligning the U.S. interest in manufacturing reconstruction with our will to expand our companies' competitiveness in the U.S. market," and added, "Through this, I expect that industrial cooperation between Korea and the U.S. will be further strengthened, and the Korea-U.S. alliance will become more solidified."
