[Financial News] Park Jin-hee, a former military aide and close associate of former Minister of National Defense Lee Jong-seop, appeared for the second time on the 30th at the special investigation on Marine Chae Sang-byeong, stating "I will cooperate sincerely with the investigation."
On this morning at around 9 AM, former aide Park appeared at the office of the special prosecutor team (Special Prosecutor Lee Myung-hyun) for Marine Chae Sang-byeong in Seocho-gu, Seoul. This is the second investigation following his appearance as a witness on the 28th, two days prior.
He responded to questions from the press such as "Did you acknowledge former President Yoon Suk-yeol's anger during the first investigation?", "Did you convey orders to downplay suspects as per former Minister Lee's command?" with "I don't think it's my place to answer," and "I will cooperate sincerely with the investigation."
When asked "What part do you plan to focus on explaining today?" he replied, "There are parts I couldn't address in the first investigation, and I plan to cooperate sincerely regarding those parts." He added, "There are indeed many regrettable parts, but I will speak truthfully at the special investigation," in response to "Is there anything specific you want to say?"
Former aide Park was present at a meeting on July 30, 2023, when the initial investigation results of Marine Chae were reported to former Minister Lee. He is identified as a key figure who closely communicated with former Minister Lee, former Marine Corps Commander Kim Gye-hwan, and former Ministry of National Defense Legal Affairs Director Yoo Jae-eun during the process where the scheduled briefing of the investigation results for the next day was canceled, and the case records transferred to the police were retrieved.
The special investigation team previously announced plans to investigate former aide Park multiple times. It is known that he did not exercise the right to remain silent during the first appearance.
In this investigation, the special investigation team is expected to focus on what instructions were given by key figures, including former Minister Lee, during the process of re-examining the investigation records of the Marine Corps Investigation Unit after they were retrieved by the Ministry of National Defense Investigation Headquarters.
