[Financial News] Minister of Defense Ahn Kyubaek will visit Poland for his first overseas trip after taking office, where the signing ceremony for the second export implementation contract of K2 tanks will be held.
Minister Ahn plans to engage in defense diplomacy activities, such as discussing strategic cooperation plans between the two countries for defense and defense industry cooperation between Korea and Poland, and peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and the region.
On the 30th, the Ministry of Defense announced that Minister Ahn will visit Poland from the 31st to the 2nd of next month to hold a bilateral defense ministerial meeting and directly attend the signing ceremony for the second implementation contract of K2 tanks.
This visit was arranged at the request of the Polish Ministry of Defense, and Minister Ahn will meet with Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Poland, on the 1st of next month, and then attend the signing ceremony for the second Polish export contract of K2 tanks held in Gliwice, southern Poland.
The Ministry of Defense explained, "The second implementation contract for K2 tanks is the largest single defense export contract in history," and "it will be an opportunity to deepen and develop mutually beneficial cooperative relations based on partnership between the two countries."
The second Polish export of K2 tanks, which was concluded earlier this month, is known to be the largest single defense export in history with a contract amount of about 6.5 billion dollars (about 9 trillion won). Of the 180 units to be supplied, 117 will be produced and supplied by Hyundai Rotem, and 63 will be locally produced by Polish company PGZ. Although the supply volume is the same as the first Polish export of K2 tanks, the contract amount has doubled due to new development and local production.
