[Financial News] Global trading company STX is accelerating its entry into the next-generation aviation and aviation battery sectors.
STX announced on the 30th that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for strategic cooperation with Mobius Korea, a company specializing in high-output battery systems for aviation mobility, through its subsidiary STX Aero Service on the 22nd.
Mobius possesses technology related to Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) and Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS). In connection with this, STX will perform overall MRO tasks, including battery replacement, maintenance, and transportation.
STX Aero Service has accumulated maintenance and operational experience in the aviation field over many years. It is evaluated to have the capability to provide systematic aviation MRO services.
AAM batteries require replacement every 3 to 6 months. STX Aero Service plans to establish logistics and maintenance solutions optimized for the replacement cycle. It also serves as a global export and maintenance partner for Mobius's UAV product line.
An STX official stated, “This agreement is a signal for entering the global value chain in the next-generation aviation and aviation battery sectors in earnest,” adding, “We aim to establish ourselves as a key company in the future aviation industry through an integrated MRO system.”
Mobius possesses high-output battery technology for aviation that meets the standards of NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) and the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration). This technology has been designated as a new growth engine industry technology by the Ministry of Strategy and Finance. The battery, based on modular design, is easy to replace and maintain, and synergy with STX's MRO business is expected.
Mobius has also secured a patent for a thermal runaway prevention battery system verified through joint development with Tesla. Mobius plans to recycle batteries primarily used in AAM (Advanced Air Mobility) and UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems) into mobile ESS (Energy Storage Systems) based on renewable energy and apply them to next-generation aviation charging systems. This is expected to increase battery utilization efficiency while presenting a model case for a circular economy. STX will be responsible for the overall movement of battery energy within this operational model.
