The National Police Agency announced on the 29th that it held a video conference of police leadership with the participation of provincial police chiefs and police station chiefs nationwide, presided over by Yoo Jaeseong, Acting Commissioner of the National Police Agency.
The meeting shared the seriousness of relational crimes such as stalking and discussed measures to prevent recurrence.
The police plan to actively implement measures to detain offenders in custody for more effective separation from victims. They also decided to preemptively crack down on carrying weapons in public places and acts of public intimidation.
Institutional improvement measures will also be prepared. The Mobile Patrol Unit will analyze major cases of relational crimes and conduct patrols around suspects subject to temporary or provisional measures such as restraining orders. The goal is to practically prevent additional crimes.
Relational crimes occurring in family or romantic relationships are increasing, following the stalking and kidnapping murder in Dongtan last May, the stalking murder case in Uijeongbu, and the attempted stalking murder case in Ulsan.
Acting Commissioner Yoo emphasized, "Please make every effort to ensure that higher-level on-site measures are implemented from the perspective of the public regarding the safety and lives of the people."
