[Financial News] It has been found that divorced men and women who are pursuing remarriage distinctly feel moments of gender equality and inequality during the remarriage process.
The remarriage specialized matchmaking companies Only-You and Vienarae conducted a survey titled 'The Current Status of Gender Equality Felt During the Remarriage Process' on 278 men and women each (total of 556 people) nationwide who hope to remarry from the 21st to the 27th. According to the survey, men feel gender equality when their partner hopes for a 'friend-like relationship' (29.1%), and women feel it when asked to 'share date costs equitably' (31.3%).
Men also cited 'similar age preference' (27.3%) and 'appearance emphasis' (22.7%), while women cited 'hope to share living expenses after remarriage' (27.3%) and 'similar age preference' (21.2%) in order.
On the other hand, regarding moments when gender equality feels distant, men cited 'economic dependence mindset' (35.3%) first, and women cited 'outdated marriage views' (34.2%). Men then cited 'self-centered date location selection' (22.3%), and women cited 'partner's emphasis on appearance' (27.7%) as the second reason. Both men and women pointed out 'avoidance of responsibility and duty' (men 20.1%, women 18.0%) as the third.
Lee Kyung, General Manager of Vienarae, explained, "Despite the reality where property division has become common, there is great dissatisfaction with women still expecting economic responsibility from men in remarriage and men trying to dominate while being indifferent to household chores."
Regarding roles they wish to change in remarriage matchmaking, men most frequently cited 'after-date requests' (33.1%), and women cited 'dressing up' (31.7%). Men followed with 'sharing date costs' (26.2%), and women with 'leading conversations' (28.4%).
Song Dong-kyu, CEO of Only-You, said, "For remarriage relationships and families to be maintained smoothly, it is necessary for both men and women to perform not only rights but also duties with an attitude of mutual understanding."
