[Financial News] The area around Nanjido, which has been transformed from a landfill into a natural ecological park, is being dressed anew with public art. In Noeul Park, where a natural ecological park and camping site have been established, an art pavilion work has been installed, stacking strata accumulated from past to present as walls. Seonyudo, harmonized with the water purification plant, offers installation art and experiential art using augmented reality (AR) that citizens can directly participate in.
Seoul City announced on the 29th that it will unveil a new public art piece 'New Stratum' in Noeul Park, Mapo-gu.
This work was promoted as part of a project to create '5 major living area public art landmarks' by Seoul City. Following 'Rain Curtain' at Garak Market in the southeastern region last year, it is the second installation representing the northwestern region.
The 'New Stratum' building, serving as a shelter in the shade-scarce Noeul Park, is made of soil, seven trees, plants, and stones. Visitors can freely stroll through the open pavilion work and enjoy the scenery of Noeul Park.
Artist Kim Hyo-young, selected through an international competition, explained, "When I first came here (to Noeul Park), the nature was very nice, but there was too little shade," adding, "It would be nice to think about the process of creating a rest space where nature can be fully felt and adding a new layer to the strata accumulated since the former Nanjido."
To commemorate the opening of the Noeul Park Art Pavilion, Seoul City has been conducting an 'Art Pavilion Certification Shot' on-site SNS event since the 21st. By posting certification shots on social networking services (SNS) with required hashtags, participants can receive kits such as 'Creating My Own Stratum' and 'Making Fireflies' through a draw.
At Seonyudo Park, located in the middle of Yanghwa Bridge on the Han River as seen from Noeul Park, the works 'Shadow Archive' and AR 'Seonyudonghwa', designed for citizens to experience directly, are being showcased.
The work, which embodies the shade of Seonyudo through chemical treatment that turns white when not exposed to sunlight, has been installed along with chairs where citizens can sit, dismantling the existing railings. It features an experience that allows visitors to view the water purification plant of Seonyudo along with public art works.

‘Seonyudonghwa’ is an AR work that can be experienced using a mobile phone at five locations within Seonyudo. By linking with the mobile phone camera through a QR code, augmented reality involving artists is displayed.
Choi In-kyu, Seoul City's Design Policy Officer, said, “The public art works unveiled in Noeul Park and Seonyudo Park this time are significant as they embrace the history of the place, the natural environment, and the use by citizens as art, beyond mere sculptures,” adding, “We hope they will be used as art pieces that provide beautiful memories and moments of relaxation to citizens visiting the parks day and night.”
