[Financial News] Former President Yoon Seok-yeol is continuing a strong confrontation by refusing to cooperate with the summons investigation by the special prosecutor team for insurrection and foreign affairs (Cho Eun-seok special prosecutor) and the Kim Geon-hee special prosecutor team (Min Jung-ki special prosecutor).
Former President Yoon was requested to appear by the Kim Geon-hee special prosecutor team at 10 AM on the 29th, but he did not show up. The special prosecutor team notified former President Yoon on the 21st to appear as a suspect for violating the Public Official Election Act.
However, former President Yoon has not conveyed any opinion, including the appointment of a lawyer, to the special prosecutor team so far. Former President Yoon has consecutively been absent from two summons investigations and the insurrection trial by the special prosecutor due to health reasons.
The special prosecutor responded immediately. The special prosecutor team announced that they sent a request for cooperation in the investigation to the warden of Seoul Detention Center, asking former President Yoon to reappear at 10 AM on the 30th. As former President Yoon was absent without any explanation, they are pressuring him to reappear.
The strong confrontation between the special prosecutor and former President Yoon's side is expected to continue for the time being. Since former President Yoon's side is pointing out the legitimacy of the special prosecutor along with health reasons, it is expected that he will continue to refuse the summons investigation by the special prosecutor team. The special prosecutor team is expected to take measures such as forced attendance after internal review.
The special prosecutor team believes that former President Yoon and his wife exerted influence to nominate Kim Young-seon, a former member of the People Power Party, in the 2022 by-election for the National Assembly in return for receiving survey results for free from Myung Tae-gyun during the presidential election. The special prosecutor conducted an intensive summons investigation on the 26th with Ham Seong-deuk, the dean of the Graduate School of Political Science at Kyunggi University, and the previous day with Yoon Sang-hyun, who was the nomination management committee chairman of the People Power Party at the time. It is known that Yoon testified in the special prosecutor's investigation that he received a call from former President Yoon but did not reflect it in the nomination process.
The main suspect of the allegation, Mr. Myung, also refused the special prosecutor's summons investigation the previous day. Mr. Myung received a request to appear as a suspect from the special prosecutor team on the 21st but reportedly conveyed through his lawyer that he would not appear. The special prosecutor team considers Mr. Myung's absence as he did not request to adjust or change the investigation date.
