[Financial News] The Kim Geon-hee Special Prosecutor Team (Min Jung-gi Special Prosecutor) will attempt to summon former President Yoon Seok-yeol for the first time on the 29th. However, it is likely to fail.
The special prosecutor team notified former President Yoon to appear as a suspect for violating the Public Official Election Act at 10 a.m. on this day. This is the first attempt to summon him 27 days after the investigation began on the 2nd of this month.
Since former President Yoon has been detained in Seoul Detention Center for the rebellion special prosecutor since the 10th, the Kim Geon-hee Special Prosecutor Team sent a request for cooperation to the head of the Seoul Detention Center.
The summons request specifies charges related to Myung Tae-kyun's nomination interference allegations.
There are allegations that during the 2022 presidential election process, former President Yoon received free public opinion surveys from 'political broker' Myung Tae-kyun and in return, helped former People Power Party lawmaker Kim Young-sun get nominated in the same year's parliamentary by-election. It is understood that Mr. Myung conducted illegal public opinion surveys a total of 81 times.
However, former President Yoon's position is that he cannot respond to the special prosecutor's investigation due to deteriorating health. He has been complaining of worsening diabetes and increased liver levels to the point where it is difficult for him to move, according to former President Yoon's side.
It is understood that former President Yoon's side has not yet submitted a lawyer appointment to the special prosecutor team until the day before.
Since being detained by the rebellion special prosecutor, former President Yoon has continued to refuse to appear for the rebellion special prosecutor's investigation and the rebellion trial ongoing at the Seoul Central District Court, remaining secluded.
