On the weekend, office worker Mr. A planned to travel to the suburbs of Seoul with his girlfriend. By searching for restaurants and cafes at the travel destination through Tmap, he could check the availability of digital tourism resident card affiliates and discount benefits at once. The digital tourism resident card could be easily issued on Tmap, and discounts could be received by scanning with a QR code on site.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 28th that from the 29th, it will expand the 'Digital Tourism Resident Card' service to private apps such as Tmap (TMAP) to promote tourism in areas with declining populations.
Until now, the digital tourism resident card was only available on the Korea Tourism Organization's 'Korea Travel' app.
The digital tourism resident card is a digital honorary resident card introduced to promote tourism in areas with declining populations, and tourists who acquire the tourism resident card in the relevant area can receive various discount benefits in food and beverage, experiences, viewing, and accommodation.
This expansion is part of the government's 'Digital Service Opening' policy.
As a result, tourists can now easily check the places where the digital tourism resident card can be used and the discount benefits when searching for local restaurants or cafes on Tmap navigation.
Industrial Bank of Korea (i-ONE Bank) and KB Kookmin Bank (KB Star Banking) are also planning to sequentially introduce the digital tourism resident card function in their apps.
i-ONE Bank aims to launch the service by the end of next month, and KB Star Banking aims to launch it in October.
