Park Hyun-su, acting commissioner of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, responded to related questions at a regular press conference on the 28th, saying, "Currently, an inspection of the Incheon Police Agency is underway by the National Police Agency, but no inspection is being conducted on the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency."
Earlier, in the case where a man in his 60s, Mr. A, killed his son with a homemade firearm in Songdo, Incheon, there was criticism that the initial response by the Incheon police was inadequate, prompting the National Police Agency's Inspection Office to launch an investigation.
According to the police, Mr. A left the scene 10 minutes after a 112 report was received at 9:31 PM on the 20th, but the police, based on the report, assumed Mr. A was inside the house and entered the premises at 10:43 PM, about 1 hour and 10 minutes later.
Subsequently, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, upon receiving a request for cooperation from the Incheon Police Agency, tracked Mr. A's vehicle number and arrested him near Sadang Station in Dongjak-gu, Seoul, around 0:20 AM on July 21, about 3 hours after the crime.
The homemade explosive device set up by Mr. A at his home in Ssangmun-dong, Dobong-gu, Seoul, was estimated to have caused considerable damage if not deactivated in time.
A representative of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency explained, "The timer of the explosive device was operating at the scene, and it seemed it would explode when the time came," adding, "Although there was no gunpowder, there were flammable materials, and it might have caused a significant fire rather than an explosion."
Acting Commissioner Park also predicted the potential impact if it had exploded, saying, "It would have had considerable power."jyseo@fnnews.com Seo Ji-yoon Reporter
