Awards and Exhibitions at September Seoul Architecture Festival
Seoul City announced on the 28th that it has selected a total of 8 works for the 43rd Seoul Architecture Awards and will exhibit the winning works at the Bukchon Cultural Center during the Seoul Architecture Festival from September to October. A total of 89 works (19 public, 70 private) were submitted for this year's architecture awards.
This year's architecture awards focused on works that futuristically unravel Seoul's uniqueness, identity, and locality, in line with the theme of the 2025 Seoul Architecture Festival, 'Seoul-ness: Multi-Layered City'.
The 'Core Dismantling System (Hanyang-gyu, Puhahaha Architects Office)' in Seongsu-dong, Seongdong-gu, which was selected for the grand prize, was highly praised for creating a column-free space by dismantling the core in the middle of the building and using a cantilever structure fixed only at one end to fill the interior with natural light.
The top prize was awarded to 'Futura Seoul (Kim Won-bang, Baek Jong-hwan, Jongno-gu Gahoe-dong)', which delicately planned to view the scenery of Bukchon from the upper floors and rooftop, and 'e-Pyeonhansesang Godeok Urban Bridge (Yang Hee-beom, Jeon I-seo, Gangdong-gu Sangil-dong)', an open apartment complex harmoniously integrated with the local landscape.
The excellence award was given to a total of 4 works, including 1 public and 3 private. In the public sector, 'Seoul AI Hub Mega Floor (Im Mi-jeong, Seocho-gu Umyeon-dong)', and in the private sector, 'Hwayeonjae-Donamjang Next Door (Lee Sang-dae, Seongbuk-gu Dongso-mun-dong)', 'Coffee Concert Hall, Urban Concert Hall (Kim Sung-min, Gangnam-gu Sinsa-dong)', and 'Jungdong High School Wonik Hall (Yoon Sun-kyung, Jo Ji-hyun, Gangnam-gu Irwon-dong)' were each selected.
The newly established Emerging Architect Award, as part of this year's K-Architecture Culture Comprehensive Support Plan, was awarded to 'Grid 149 (Kim Mi-hee, Songpa-gu Songpa-dong)'.
The awards ceremony will be held in conjunction with the opening event of the '2025 17th Seoul Architecture Festival' in September, and the 'Citizen Sympathy Special Award' will also be awarded to 2 works that received the most support in the citizen online voting (Emvoting) in August.
Meanwhile, Seoul City plans to expand support for participation in public architecture project competitions along with the exhibition and promotion of works by emerging architects to provide growth opportunities for creative and innovative emerging architects.
