Special Prosecutor Team, Likely to Look into 'Chilbulsa Meeting'
[Financial News] The special prosecutor team led by Min Jung-gi (Kim Geon-hee Special Prosecutor) has launched a forced investigation into Lee Jun-seok, the leader of the Reform New Party, in connection with the 'Myeong Tae-gyun Gate'.
The special prosecutor team dispatched prosecutors and investigators to search and seize the residence of Leader Lee located in Sanggye-dong, Nowon-gu, Seoul, from the morning of the 28th. Leader Lee is known to be a reference in connection with the 'Myeong Tae-gyun Gate'.
The special prosecutor team appears to have launched the search and seizure to investigate the 'Chilbulsa Meeting', where Leader Lee reportedly gathered with former lawmaker Kim Young-seon, Myeong, and Cheon Ha-ram, the Reform New Party's floor leader, ahead of the 22nd general election last year in February. At the 'Chilbulsa Meeting', former lawmaker Kim reportedly showed call records and Telegram messages with Mrs. Kim Geon-hee, demanding the first proportional representation nomination of the Reform New Party in exchange for exposing interference in the general election nomination. The Reform New Party announced the next day that they did not accept former lawmaker Kim's demand after a leadership meeting.
Additionally, the special prosecutor team is continuing its investigation, believing that former President Yoon Seok-yeol and his wife were involved in the nomination for the 2022 National Assembly by-election and last year's 22nd general election. It is alleged that during the presidential election period in March 2022, former President Yoon and his wife received polling results free of charge from Myeong and exerted influence to have former lawmaker Kim nominated for the by-election. Leader Lee was then the representative of the People Power Party.
The special prosecutor team completed a high-intensity summons investigation of Yoon Sang-hyun, a lawmaker of the People Power Party, who was then the chairman of the nomination management committee, the previous day. Lawmaker Yoon stated, "I spoke sincerely."
