[Financial News] The high temperature caused the asphalt to melt, resulting in a sinkhole.
According to the district office and fire department on the 28th, ground subsidence occurred near the light rail construction site in Yongdu-dong, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, around 10:04 PM the previous day.
A sinkhole with a depth of 20~30cm, width of 40cm, and length of 20cm occurred near the construction site.
The fire authorities suspect that the sinkhole was caused by the asphalt melting due to the high temperature.
The detailed cause, whether it is due to the heatwave or the light rail construction, is under investigation.
There were no evacuations or casualties reported due to this incident.
The district office, fire department, and police were dispatched to the scene to control traffic.
The Dongdaemun-gu office issued a safety guide message around 11 PM, stating, "Due to ground subsidence near the light rail construction site at 47-1 Yongdu-dong, traffic is being controlled, so vehicles should detour, and nearby residents should refrain from approaching."jjw@fnnews.com Jeong Ji-woo Reporter
