Prime Minister Kim Min-seok stated on the 27th, "We will firmly protect the Republic of Korea and expand the solidarity of peace to repay the noble sacrifice." This was at the ceremony for the 'United Nations Forces Participation Day' held on the 71st anniversary of the signing of the Korean War Armistice Agreement.
Prime Minister Kim said at the ceremony held at KINTEX, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do, "Our alliance will become stronger, and we will move forward together towards a future of peace and prosperity," he said.
This year's ceremony was held under the theme 'Connecting the freedom and peace we protected together to the future.'
Prime Minister Kim evaluated, "Overcoming the scars of war, the Republic of Korea has achieved a great leap forward. The economy has risen to the ranks of advanced countries, and 'K-culture' and 'K-democracy' are attracting global attention," but also pointed out, "Despite the sacrifice of the UN forces and our efforts 75 years ago, the pain of division is ongoing."
He continued, quoting President Lee Jae-myung's statement, "The most certain security is a state where there is no need to fight, that is, creating peace," and declared, "We will fulfill our responsibility for security and peace. We will move forward on a path of coexistence, not division and confrontation."
The event was attended by five veterans from five countries, including the United States. Prime Minister Kim personally pushed the wheelchair of a veteran with mobility difficulties as he entered the venue.
Also, at the ceremony, the Taeguk Order of Military Merit was awarded to the late Fred B. McGee, a U.S. Army veteran who distinguished himself in the battle near Dangmanri in 1952.
Meanwhile, July 27th 'United Nations Forces Participation Day' is a legal commemorative day designated to honor the sacrifice and contribution of UN veterans, as it is the day the Korean War Armistice Agreement was signed in 1953.
