[Financial News] Yoon Seok-yeol, former president, and his wife's nomination intervention suspicion is being investigated by Yoon Sang-hyun, a member of the People Power Party, who appeared before Kim Geon-hee's special prosecutor team (Min Joong-gi special prosecutor).
The special prosecutor team summoned former lawmaker Yoon to the KT Gwanghwamun West Building located in Jongno-gu, Seoul, on the 27th to investigate the former president's nomination intervention suspicion.
Before his appearance, lawmaker Yoon met with reporters and stated regarding the former president and his wife's nomination intervention suspicion, "I will approach the investigation seriously, truthfully, and sincerely."
The former president and his wife are suspected of receiving nomination requests from 'political broker' Myung Tae-kyun ahead of the 2022 parliamentary by-election and last year's 22nd general election. They are suspected of having intervened to have former lawmaker Kim Young-sun nominated in the parliamentary by-election as a reward for receiving several illegal opinion polls free of charge from Mr. Myung during the 21st presidential election.
At that time, lawmaker Yoon was the head of the nomination management committee for the People Power Party's by-election.
The released recording includes the former president saying to Mr. Myung on May 9, 2022, the day before the People Power Party's by-election nomination announcement, "I worked hard for Kim Young-sun since the primary, so help Kim Young-sun a bit, but there are many words within the party," and "I will talk to Sang-hyun (lawmaker Yoon) once more. He is the head of the nomination committee."
The special prosecutor team searched lawmaker Yoon's National Assembly office and home, as well as former lawmaker Kim's home, on the 8th. Lawmaker Yoon submitted his phone at that time but did not provide the password. Recently, he cooperated by providing the password to the special prosecutor. The special prosecutor also requested appearances from former lawmaker Kim and Mr. Myung, but former lawmaker Kim stated he could appear on the 7th of next month instead of the date requested by the special prosecutor and did not appear.
