[Financial News] The KOSPI index closed at 3190, unable to surpass the 3200 mark on the 25th. Although KOSPI set a new record high the previous day, it failed to maintain the upward trend due to concerns over trade negotiations.
According to the Korea Exchange, the KOSPI index closed at 3196.05, up 0.18% from the previous trading day. On this day, KOSPI started at 3184.37, down 0.19% from the previous session.
Among the top market cap stocks, Hanwha Aerospace (0.43%), KB Financial Group (1.37%), and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (5.83%) closed higher. On the other hand, Samsung Electronics (-0.15%), SK Hynix (-1.30%), and LG Energy Solution (-1.22%) declined.
By sector, IT services (1.86%), electricity and gas (1.26%), and finance (1.16%) rose. In contrast, textiles and clothing (-2.21%), pharmaceuticals (-1.59%), entertainment and culture (-1.51%), and chemicals (-0.64%) fell.
It is analyzed that market caution has increased as a red light has been turned on in the tariff negotiations between Korea and the United States. Jaewon Lee, a researcher at Shinhan Investment Corp, said, "In the three main axes of performance, tariffs, and policy, the momentum of policy and tariffs has weakened," adding, "Amid ongoing tariff uncertainties, large-cap stocks such as semiconductors showed weakness."
He added, "It is necessary to confirm whether tariff negotiations can be quickly resumed in the situation where events affecting interest rates such as the FOMC (Federal Open Market Committee) and BOJ (Bank of Japan) are ahead next week."
On this day, the KOSDAQ index closed at 806.95, down 0.36% from the previous trading day. In the KOSDAQ market, institutions sold off 146.7 billion won worth, dragging down the index. In contrast, individuals and institutions net bought 84.4 billion won and 94.4 billion won worth, respectively.
