[Financial News] Recently, due to record-breaking heavy rains nationwide, several regions such as Chungcheong, Jeolla, Gyeongsang, and Jeju have suffered severe flooding and damage, with major domestic pharmaceutical and bio companies joining forces to aid flood recovery.
In line with the industry that deals with human life and health, the pharmaceutical and bio industry is practicing swift response and warm sharing even in disaster situations, sharing the pain of the victims.
According to the industry on the 25th, Celltrion, a leading domestic bio company, donated 500 million won to the Community Chest of Korea to help residents suffering from flood damage. This donation will be used for recovery and support for victims through the National Disaster Relief Association.
Celltrion stated, "We hope this donation will provide practical help to residents who lost their homes due to the sudden disaster," and "We will continue to fulfill our corporate social responsibility and become a company that stands with the people."
Dong-A Pharmaceutical, together with the Korean Pharmaceutical Association, delivered medicines to flood-affected areas such as Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam, and Yesan-gun, Chungnam. The items delivered using the 'Volunteer Pharmacy Truck' weighing 1.2 tons included cold medicine Panpyrin, children's cold medicine Champ, digestive medicine Benachio, and tonic Bacchus.
These medicines were provided for the victims and volunteers working on-site, who are concerned about infection and hygiene issues due to the flood. Dong-A Pharmaceutical also provided the same support to wildfire-affected areas last March and continues to engage in social contribution activities for rapid response in disasters.
Kwangdong Pharmaceutical, in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and Welfare, the Korea National Council on Social Welfare, and the Korean Red Cross, urgently supported 10,000 bottles of drinking water to victims in Chungcheong, Jeolla, Gyeongsang, and Jeju regions. These beverages were delivered as drinking water substitutes to victims in temporary shelters and will be additionally provided to other affected areas in the future.
A representative from Kwangdong Pharmaceutical stated, "We will continue to play a role in providing practical help in response to sudden disasters," expressing their intention to continue relief activities. Kwangdong Pharmaceutical also urgently supported its beverages to wildfire-affected areas last March.
The pharmaceutical and bio industry has continued various contribution activities for the socially disadvantaged and disaster areas beyond this flood support. As part of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) activities that practice corporate social responsibility beyond corporate profits, the value of ESG has become as important as business performance recently.
