Special Prosecutor: "Lifting Travel Ban on Kim Ye-seong's Wife is Not a Matter for Consultation"
[Financial News] Kim Keon-hee's special prosecutor team (Min Jung-gi, special prosecutor) will summon and investigate Yoo Jeong-ok and Jeong Ji-won, former presidential office administrators known as 'Kim Keon-hee's Three Aides'.
Oh Jeong-hee, the special prosecutor, announced on the 24th that they plan to summon and investigate Yoo and Jeong on the 25th at 10 a.m.
Mrs. Kim wore a Van Cleef & Arpels necklace worth 60 million won during the NATO tour in August 2023, which was not reported in her asset declaration, raising suspicions. At the time, the presidential office explained that "it was borrowed from an acquaintance."
Furthermore, controversy arose when Shin Mo, the wife of former personnel secretary Lee Won-mo, accompanied the NATO tour as a civilian. It was reported that Shin, despite being a civilian without an official position, was issued a diplomatic passport. The special prosecutor team is known to have obtained related documents from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
To confirm the two suspicions, the special prosecutor summoned Jo Yeon-gyeong, a former presidential office administrative officer, to the special prosecutor's office the day before and conducted an intense investigation for over 9 hours. On the 22nd, Choi Seung-jun, a former presidential office civil society secretary who assisted Mrs. Kim in the presidential office and is a cousin of former President Yoon Seok-yeol, was also summoned for investigation. The special prosecutor team seems to be investigating the whereabouts of gifts suspected to have been received by Mrs. Kim from the Unification Church.
As they proceed with the summons investigation of those considered 'Kim Keon-hee's Three Aides', the special prosecutor team plans to investigate the acquisition route of Mrs. Kim's necklace, the whereabouts of the Unification Church's gifts, and the relationship between Jeon Seong-bae, a Buddhist monk, and Mrs. Kim.
Additionally, to verify the Unification Church's bribery allegations, the special prosecutor team is conducting a search and seizure at Samil Accounting Corporation and KOICA from the morning.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Kim's side, scheduled for a summons investigation on the 6th of next month, submitted an opinion letter to the special prosecutor team regarding the investigation method. Mrs. Kim's side requested △separate summons investigations for each charge △a guarantee of at least 3-4 days of rest between summons dates △conclusion of the investigation before 6 p.m. However, the special prosecutor seems to have effectively rejected such requests. Oh, the special prosecutor, stated, "The special prosecutor plans to conduct the summons investigation according to law and principles," and "No position has been conveyed yet."
The special prosecutor team conducted a summons investigation on Jeong Mo, the wife of Kim Ye-seong, involved in the 'Housekeeper Gate', the day before. During the investigation, Jeong proposed that if her travel ban is lifted, Kim, who is in Vietnam with their children, would return. However, it is reported that the special prosecutor rejected the lifting of Jeong's travel ban on the spot.
The third summons investigation of Lee Jong-ho, former CEO of Black Pearl Investment, involved in the 'Deutsch Motors Stock Manipulation Allegation', is scheduled for the 30th. Lee is accused of violating the Attorney-at-Law Act by allegedly receiving over 80 million won from Lee Jeong-pil, the first main player in the Deutsch Motors stock manipulation, 25 times from June 2022, promising to help him receive a suspended sentence. In addition, the special prosecutor team is investigating Lee Mo, who owns 4,000 shares of IMS Mobility, which Kim was involved in establishing, and Hyun-ik Lee, former CEO of Middle East Finance, who invested in IMS Mobility, as well as An Jung-gu, CEO of Unique. They are reportedly questioning them about △the circumstances leading to their investment in IMS Mobility △whether they were aware of Mrs. Kim's involvement.
Kim Young-seon, former People's Power, who was scheduled for a summons investigation that day, did not appear, and the special prosecutor team processed it as a non-appearance. Former lawmaker Kim is suspected of intervention in nominations in the so-called 'Myeong Tae-gyun Gate'.
