[Financial News] Samsung Heavy Industries' quarterly operating profit has surpassed 200 billion won for the first time in 11 years since 2014. This is attributed to the reduction in fixed costs due to increased sales and the increased sales proportion of high-profit ship types (Product-Mix improvement).
Samsung Heavy Industries announced on the 24th that its preliminary results for the second quarter of 2025 recorded sales of 2.683 trillion won and an operating profit of 204.8 billion won.
Sales increased by 6% compared to the same period last year due to the increase in working days. During the same period, operating profit increased by 56.7%.
Based on preliminary results, first-half sales amounted to 5.1773 trillion won, and operating profit was 327.9 billion won. Compared to last year's first-half sales of 4.8798 trillion won and operating profit of 208.6 billion won, they increased by 6.1% and 57.2%, respectively.
As of July, Samsung Heavy Industries has achieved 34% (3.3 billion dollars) of its annual order target of 9.8 billion dollars. The merchant ship sector achieved 45% (2.6 billion dollars) of its target, and the offshore sector achieved 17% (700 million dollars).
It is expected that the smooth flow of orders will continue in the second half. The merchant ship sector is expected to maintain strong medium- to long-term demand for gas carriers such as LNG carriers and large ethane carriers. The eco-friendly replacement demand for container ships over 12,000 TEU and the increase in new orders for tankers with a high proportion of aging ships are also anticipated.
The offshore sector recently signed a contract with an African regional shipowner for preliminary work on offshore production facilities and is about to sign the main contract. It focuses on FLNG (Floating Liquefied Natural Gas) projects, which have a high possibility of being ordered within the year. It plans to actively respond to bids for new FLNG project FEED (Front-End Engineering Design) to steadily build a pool for continuous FLNG orders.
A Samsung Heavy Industries representative said, "Achieving an operating profit of 200 billion won in a quarter is the first time in 11 years since the second quarter of 2014," adding, "Achieving the guidance of 10.5 trillion won in sales and 630 billion won in operating profit presented at the beginning of the year will be smooth."
