[Financial News] The first high-ranking prosecutor appointments of the Lee Jae-myung government are expected to take place. In this appointment, it seems that 'pro-Yoon (pro-Yoon Seok-yeol) special prosecutors' will be largely replaced.
According to the legal community on the 24th, the Ministry of Justice is expected to announce appointments for senior prosecutors at the level of chief prosecutor or higher on the 25th. The implementation date is the 29th.
The Ministry of Justice is known to have recently notified senior officials at the level of chief prosecutor or higher that they are candidates for appointments. Typically, before appointments of high-ranking officials in the prosecution, they are contacted to encourage voluntary retirement or to open the way for smooth appointments by seeking their understanding.
Among those notified as candidates are Shin Ja-yong, Director of the Judicial Research and Training Institute (28th class of the Judicial Research and Training Institute), Park Se-hyun, Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office (29th class), Song Kyung-ho, Chief Prosecutor of the Busan High Prosecutors' Office (29th class), Shin Bong-su, Chief Prosecutor of the Daegu High Prosecutors' Office (29th class), Kwon Soon-jung, Chief Prosecutor of the Suwon High Prosecutors' Office (29th class), and Hwang Byung-joo, Chief Prosecutor of the Daejeon High Prosecutors' Office (29th class). Most of them share the commonality of being special prosecutors who were heavily used during the Yoon Seok-yeol government.
Meanwhile, those mentioned as candidates for promotion in this appointment are known to be about 30 people from the 31st to 33rd classes of the Judicial Research and Training Institute. Among them, there are 4 female candidates, including Kim Hyang-yeon, Deputy Chief of the Busan District Prosecutors' Office (32nd class), and Gu Tae-yeon, Deputy Chief of the Ulsan District Prosecutors' Office (32nd class).
Deputy Chief Kim has strengths in fair trade investigations, having worked at the Central District Prosecutors' Office's Fair Trade Investigation Department and been seconded to the Fair Trade Commission. She also participated in the process of creating a fair trade casebook while seconded to the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office. During the Moon Jae-in government, she served as the Director of the Legal Affairs Division of the Ministry of Justice and worked as the Chief of the Criminal Division 11 at the Central District Prosecutors' Office.
Deputy Chief Gu worked as a prosecutor researcher in the Future Planning Division of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, and during the Moon Jae-in administration, served as the Director of the Unification Legal Affairs Division of the Ministry of Justice and the Director of the Inspection Division 2 of the Supreme Prosecutors' Office. She later served as the Chief of the Criminal Division 9 and the Criminal Division 8 at the Central District Prosecutors' Office.
Additionally, Shin Hye-jin, Chief Prosecutor of the Major Economic Crimes Investigation Division 2 at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office (33rd class), and Kim Hyun-ah, Head of the Criminal Justice System Operation Division of the Ministry of Justice (33rd class), are also reportedly included in the list of promotees.
