The Ministry of Science and ICT announced that Second Vice Minister Ryu Jemyung held a meeting on the 24th with professors, corporate representatives, and experts active in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) to listen to field opinions on the direction of securing core AI talents.
This meeting is part of a series of field communication meetings aimed at realizing 'AI as one of the top 3 nations', and was prepared as the second session. The Ministry of Science and ICT visited the AI specialized company 'VAIV Company' to discuss the type of talents needed on the field and ways to secure them.
Before the meeting, Vice Minister Ryu visited the on-site research space of AI master's and doctoral students dispatched to VAIV Company, encouraging their passion and hard work and listening to their vivid opinions. VAIV Company is conducting joint research with four universities, including Seoul National University, Yonsei University, Korea University, and Kookmin University, as part of the Ministry of Science and ICT's 'Leading AI Talent Development Project', with some AI master's and doctoral students dispatched to the field to conduct collaborative research with companies.
The subsequent meeting was attended by key corporate representatives developing and utilizing AI technology, such as Lee Yeonsoo, CEO of NC AI, Kim Kyungseo, CEO of VAIV Company, and Kim Yucheol, Head of Strategy at LG AI Research Institute, as well as educational experts focusing on nurturing talents in AI graduate schools, including Professor Lee Seonghwan of Korea University, Professor Kim Seonju of Yonsei University, Professor Shim Jaeyoung of UNIST, and Professor Choi Jongwon of Chung-Ang University.
Participants discussed the scale and level of talents needed to secure core AI competitiveness and transition in the rapidly changing global AI competitive environment, and deeply discussed effective strategies for securing AI talents. AI companies shared their AI development and implementation cases and the capabilities required of talents during those processes, offering suggestions on the type of talents needed on the field. The academic side presented training goals reflecting industrial change trends and directions for institutional improvement to secure core talents.
Vice Minister Ryu stated, "Securing AI talents is a key task for national AI competitiveness," and added, "We will continue to listen to field voices and prepare practical talent acquisition and support measures."
