Special Prosecutor's Side "Summons Warrant Should Be Issued"
[Financial News] Former President Yoon Seok-yeol cited health reasons for his absence from the treason charge trial for the third consecutive time.
Former President Yoon did not attend the trial held at 10:15 AM on the 24th at the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 25 (Presiding Judge Ji Gui-yeon) due to health reasons.
The court stated, "As the absence continues, we will proceed with the investigation procedures according to the Criminal Procedure Act and rules," and added, "We have received a health certificate and will check with the prison if his health is poor and if a summons is possible."
In this day's trial, the special prosecutor team in charge of maintaining the prosecution for treason and foreign exchange (Special Prosecutor Jo Eun-seok) requested the court to issue a summons warrant. The special prosecutor's side stated, "(Former President Yoon's side) claimed that his fasting blood sugar level exceeded the normal range, making it difficult to attend the trial for long hours, and thus he was absent," and added, "The defendant has neglected his duty to attend, being absent for three consecutive times, so please issue a summons warrant."
Former President Yoon's lawyer argued that the special prosecutor law is unconstitutional and that there is an issue with the issuance of a separate arrest warrant, which constitutes a reason for absence.
Previously, Former President Yoon also did not appear at the trials held on the 10th and 17th. The court proceeded with the trial by listening to the testimonies of witnesses without Former President Yoon in a 'witness examination outside the date' manner.
However, the court previously stated, "The outside date method cannot be continued indefinitely," and requested Former President Yoon's side to submit health-related materials and persuade him to attend.
