"Due to US Secretary Bessent's Urgent Schedule"
[Financial News] Koo Yoon-cheol, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, has abruptly canceled his planned visit to the United States to respond to the impending enforcement of the US's reciprocal tariff measures on August 1. The reason is the urgent schedule of US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
The Ministry of Economy and Finance announced on the 24th that the '2+2 Trade Meeting' scheduled to be held on the 25th (local time) between Korea and the US will not take place due to Secretary Bessent's pressing schedule. The '2+2 Negotiation' was a high-level meeting where Korea's Deputy Prime Minister Koo Yoon-cheol and Trade Negotiation Headquarters Director Yeo Han-gu, along with US Treasury Secretary Bessent and USTR Representative Jamieson Greer, were to discuss the issue of imposing high tariffs.
The Ministry of Economy and Finance stated, "The US side proposed to hold it as soon as possible, and both Korea and the US plan to set a schedule at the earliest possible date."
