KOSPI Recovers to 3180 Level on Foreign and Institutional Buying... Auto Stocks Surge [fn Closing Market]

[Financial News] The KOSPI index recovered to the 3180 level on the 23rd due to buying by foreign and institutional investors.
According to the Korea Exchange on this day, the KOSPI index closed at 3183.77, up 0.44% from the previous trading day. Starting at 3189.65, up 0.62% from the previous session, the KOSPI initially fell to the 3140 level but recovered in the afternoon to close at the 3180 level.
In the stock market, foreigners and institutions supported the index by buying 349.2 billion won and 327.2 billion won worth of stocks, respectively. On the other hand, individuals sold 753.1 billion won worth of stocks.
Most of the top market capitalization stocks closed higher. In particular, Hyundai Motor (7.51%) and Kia (8.49%) surged on news of mutual tariff reduction agreements between the US and Japan, while Samsung Biologics (2.11%), LG Energy Solution (0.90%), and Doosan Enerbility (1.28%) also closed higher. However, Hanwha Aerospace, ranked 5th in market cap on this day, fell by 1.30%. Additionally, Celltrion (-0.61%), HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (-0.84%), and Naver (-1.49%) closed lower.
By sector, transportation equipment and parts (1.86%), metals (1.71%), electricity and gas (1.63%), and machinery equipment (1.61%) closed higher. On the other hand, paper and wood (-2.44%), IT services (-1.99%), entertainment and culture (-1.42%), and securities (-1.24%) fell.
Lee Jae-won, a researcher at Shinhan Investment Corp., said, "On this day, the domestic stock market saw a shift to net buying by foreigners and institutions, with buying mainly from financial investments," and added, "With news of the US-Japan tariff negotiations settlement, auto and steel stocks showed a rebound, while there was a movement waiting for earnings announcements." He continued, "Sectors excluded from stock prices due to tariffs may have rebound expectations depending on the progress of tariff negotiations."
On this day, the KOSDAQ index closed at 813.56, up 0.07% from the previous session. In the KOSDAQ market, individuals bought 163.2 billion won worth of stocks. On the other hand, foreigners and institutions net sold 36.4 billion won and 106.7 billion won worth of stocks, respectively.
