[Financial News] With the Gyeongju APEC Summit 100 days away, the Security Control Unit, which oversees the security sector, announced on the 23rd that they are accelerating thorough preparations for the successful hosting of K-APEC with the theme of 'Open Security, Low Security' through K-Security.
The Security Control Unit is composed of six agencies centered around the Presidential Security Service: △National Intelligence Service △Ministry of National Defense △National Police Agency △National Fire Agency △Korea Coast Guard.
The Security Control Unit is establishing a comprehensive APEC security plan, considering bilateral meetings in Seoul and related events in other regions, as well as security measures for the summit venue, accommodations, and each event venue through organic collaboration among related agencies.
The Security Control Unit plans to implement 'Open Security, Low Security' during the summit period by thoroughly analyzing the geographical features of the Bomun Complex in Gyeongju, where the summit venue and accommodations are located, and through continuous communication with the Gyeongju Preparation Support Team, related officials, and Bomun Complex resident companies to achieve security objectives while minimizing civilian damage.
Prior to this, the Security Control Unit contributed to the successful hosting of the Informal Senior Officials Meeting (ISOM) last December, the 1st Senior Officials Meeting (SOM1, Gyeongju), and the 2nd Senior Officials Meeting (SOM2, Jeju), and is preparing without a hitch for the upcoming 3rd Senior Officials Meeting (SOM3, Incheon) on the 26th.
Additionally, during the 1st briefing session for the diplomatic corps in Korea, held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Preparation Planning Team on the 9th and 10th, the Security Control Unit shared the event preparation status with member countries by introducing mature and elegant K-Security through security preparation briefings, Q&A sessions, and joint field inspections, aiming to build safety and sophistication together.
Hwang In-gwon, head of the Security Control Unit, emphasized, "The Security Control Unit will make every effort to create an event that not only ensures safety but also impresses each country's delegation and instills pride in participating citizens through continuous communication and discussion with related departments," adding, "We will do our best to make K-APEC, where you can experience a safe Korea and sophisticated K-Security, together with the people."
