[Financial News] The National Science and Technology Research Council (NST) announced the launch of the Policy Advisory Committee on the 23rd.
The advisory committee is composed of nine experts from various fields with a high understanding of policy issues related to government-funded research institutes and will play a role in advising on policy agendas and solutions for improving the research environment over the course of one year.
The chairman is Jeong Jin-taek, a professor at Korea University's Department of Mechanical Engineering (former 20th president of Korea University). To ensure the effectiveness of the advisory committee's activities, subcommittees such as the 'Innovation Policy Planning Group' and agenda-specific 'divisions' will also be operated.
The 'Innovation Policy Planning Group' is responsible for discovering policy agenda candidates and reviewing and revising draft advisory proposals, while each 'division' will discuss improvement plans for specific agendas and prepare draft advisory proposals.
At the inauguration ceremony, agendas related to governance, roles, talent, budget, regional organizations, and commercialization of government-funded research institutes were discovered and discussed, and advisory will proceed according to future priorities.
During the preparation of advisory proposals, the Science and Technology Policy Institute (STEPI), a national research institute, will support committee activities and operations as a specialized institution.
NST plans to continue activities to improve the research environment of government-funded research institutes based on the advisory proposals derived from the advisory committee.
Chairman Jeong Jin-taek stated, “A good research environment must be established for excellent talent to gather, and excellent talent must gather for outstanding research to be conducted,” and expressed hope that “a groundbreaking improvement in the research environment of government-funded research institutes will be achieved through the advisory committee.”
