[Financial News] In the first half of this year, the number of passengers using KTX and regular trains surpassed 72 million, setting a new record for the highest transport volume.
Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL) announced on the 23rd that the number of KTX and regular train passengers in the first half of this year exceeded 72 million. The days with the highest number of passengers were May 3rd with 540,000 and May 4th with 530,000, coinciding with the start of the Children's Day (5th) golden holiday. Seoul Station had the most passengers with 118,000 users. It was followed by Dongdaegu Station (52,000) and Daejeon Station (51,000).
The station with the largest increase in passengers compared to last year was Bujeon Station, which was affected by the new openings of the Jungang Line and Donghae Line. Bujeon Station saw 3,000 passengers per day, an increase of 2.2 times compared to 2024. Additionally, Pangyo Station increased by 1.6 times after the extension opening of the Jungbu Inland Line, and Gamgok Janghowon Station saw a 1.4 times increase in passengers after operating a shuttle bus five times a day (round trip) in collaboration with a nearby university. The most used section was Seoul to Busan with a total of 3.69 million passengers. This was followed by Seoul to Daejeon with 2.56 million passengers. Notably, the six new lines opened since the end of last year transported a total of 2.5 million passengers.
A KORAIL representative stated, "As the railway network becomes denser, new vitality is spreading to the provinces," and added, "We will continue to improve railway services so that the public can use the railways more safely and conveniently."
