【Financial News Muan=Hwang Taejong Reporter】Jeonnam-do will conduct damage assessments until the 30th to restore crop damage caused by the extreme heavy rain that continued from the 16th to the 20th.
According to Jeonnam-do on the 23rd, this heavy rain recorded an average rainfall of 224㎜ in the Jeonnam region, with Gokseong recording the maximum rainfall of 446㎜.
As of the 22nd, the total crop damage area in the Jeonnam region is tentatively estimated at 7786.8㏊. Among them, flood damage accounts for most of it at 7764.7㏊, and loss/burial damage reaches 22.1㏊.
 By city/county, Sinan 2008㏊, Hampyeong 1496.8㏊, Naju 1309.4㏊, Yeonggwang 760㏊ in order. By crop, rice 6531.7㏊ (83.9%), soybeans 486.3㏊, vegetables 263.2㏊, fruits 114.9㏊, etc.
Jeonnam-do cited the main causes of this damage as local extreme heavy rain leading to overflow of agricultural drainage channels and embankments, and the rise in the water level of the Yeongsan River. It was particularly analyzed that flood damage was concentrated in cities/counties with tributaries of the Yeongsan River.
Affected farmers should report to the town/myeon/dong office of the relevant farmland by the 30th.
Depending on the crop damage, disaster relief funds are provided per hectare: △Pesticide costs 1-3 million won △Replanting costs (cost of replanting crops) 4-9 million won, and depending on the damage rate △Living expense support (for a family of four) 1.87 million won △Agricultural policy loan repayment deferral and interest reduction (30-49% for 1 year, over 50% for 2 years) are also supported.
Jeonnam-do plans to continue rapid recovery support for the quick normalization of farming for affected farmers, as well as continuous inspections of disaster-prone facilities, encouragement to subscribe to crop disaster insurance, and support for manpower from the public, private, and military sectors for emergency recovery in preparation for typhoons or heavy rains in the summer.
Yoo Deokgyu, head of Jeonnam-do's Food and Horticulture Division, said, "We will mobilize all administrative power to support the rapid recovery of farmers who suffered great damage from sudden heavy rains," adding, "We hope that farmers who have not yet subscribed to insurance will definitely subscribe to crop disaster insurance."
